sweet tooth

after an unnecessarily hectic morning, i spent most of the day indoors, lazing around, making brunch, drinking coffee, listening to music, fiddling with my camera, smelling the fresh cut freesias. in the evening i developed a bit of a sweet tooth. the quick fix solution for this would be to march 10 blocks down to the Two Little Red Hens bakery and buy a large lemon meringue tart. or wait 4 hours and have dessert with my friend Salman, crosstown (yuck). Instead i looked for a low ingredient cake to make and found this recipe for a blood orange olive oil cake.

how fortuitous it was that i had some BASIL OLIVE OIL. such decadance as i folded it into the cake mixture. i don't think my kitchenaid mixer could've been happier. it's a bit of a wait as it bakes, so i dug out a filet mignon and some enormous portabello mushrooms and a big box of spinach to make dinner. dinner was done in a flash. the cake wait was EXCRUCIATING. from start to finish including cooling i could've had a lemon meringue tart AND dessert with Salman already.

i chipped off a little corner of the cake once it had cooled and it was absolutely delightful. so tasty and fragrant. it's kind of a half bread half cake, which lends itself to breakfast without the guilt and deliberation if it is a breakfast food or not. i think it's an all-time food.
